The 2015 season will be huge! We’re anticipating another fun and adventurous year. Here’s a preview of the events, with details about each race.

April 25
4th Annual Junior League of Tuscaloosa Dragon Boat Races – Tuscaloosa, AL
The Junior League of Tuscaloosa makes dragon boat racing happen in a big way every year on the Black Warrior River! Its members work hard every year to produce a great event and bring attention to the benefits its many community partnerships. Competition gets fierce on the Black Warrior, and off the water everyone talks smack. It’s all in good fun!

May 2
9th Annual Children’s Hospital Dragon Boat Festival – Chattanooga, TN
Thanks to the paddlers’ and teams’ fundraising efforts, the real winners of this event are children who receive the medical care they need at Children’s Hospital. Team members are dedicated to the event and the cause, raising $200,000-250,000 each year, while having fun with elaborate tent decorating and costumes. The atmosphere is golden in Chattanooga!

May 9
4th Annual Decatur Morgan Hospital Foundation Dragon Boat Festival – Decatur, AL

Home to the largest dragon boat race in Alabama, 70-plus local teams compete and raise big money for the Decatur Morgan Hospital Foundation. For the fourth year, this race is expected to be just as big and filled with excitement, cultural festivities and fun as it always is! Held at Point Mallard Park, most local companies, schools and civic organizations in Decatur participate and raise $100,000-plus for Decatur Morgan Hospital Foundation.

May 16
3rd Annual River Cities Dragon Boat Festival – Little Rock, AR

Coming off its most successful fundraising venture yet, The Children’s Protection Center has ambitious plans for The 3rd Annual River Cities Dragon Boat Festival in Little Rock. Paddlers unite off the water to raise money for child abuse services at CPC. They raised more than $100,000 last year. Event activities include fireworks, music, food and festivities.

May 17
Inaugural SEF Dragon Boat Festival – Sparta, NJ

This first-year event benefits the Sparta Education Foundation, which has donated more than $500,000 to Sparta schools since 2006. The gorgeous venue at Lake Mohawk Country Club will serve as the backdrop as new teams in this small community get a chance to make waves in a dragon boat.

May 30
2nd Annual Oak Ridge Dragon Boat Festival – Oak Ridge, TN
After a smooth first-year event teams are making their return to The 2nd Annual Oak Ridge Dragon Boat Festival in Oak Ridge, TN. A nationally known rowing course at Melton Lake Park is the perfect venue for the festivities, including a beer garden and drummer’s parade through the peninsula. Attracting local schools, breast cancer survivor teams, companies and civic organizations, this race highlights a diverse community. All three Rotary Clubs in Oak Ridge benefit from all the proceeds.

Inaugural Fort Wayne Dragon Boat Races

The city of Fort Wayne will highlight its River during River Palooza and The Fort Wayne Dragon Boat Races this spring. Sponsors and teams are already lining up to take part. Proceeds benefit Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana. Thanks to a collaboration between the Mayor’s office, Mayor’s Youth Engagement Council, and Cancer Services, this race will be a great inaugural event.

June 6
2nd Annual Fuse Project Dragon Boat Festival – Spanish Fort, AL

After an enormously popular first-year event, The Fuse Project near Mobile, AL expects an even bigger participation the second year. Nearly 30 teams competed in 2014 and raised more than $100,000 to fund two game changing projects, investing in our greatest natural resource: our children. Held at the scenic Five Rivers Delta Center in Spanish Fort, everyone is pumped for the 2015 race!

July 11
3rd Annual Dragons on the Lake Festival – Akron, OH
This race keeps getting better! Teams flock to the Big Pink Chair for pictures, but they also bring their best on the water as the competition heats up every year. Held at the beautiful Portage Lakes State Park, it’s the ideal setting for picnicking and dragon boat racing. Benefiting Boatloads of Hope, a breast cancer outreach program of the Dragon Dream Team of Ohio, paddlers at this race know how to get their pink on for a great cause!

July 18
3rd Annual Marshall County Habitat Dragon Boat Festival – Guntersville, AL
Teams and paddlers will return to Civitan Park on Lake Guntersville for racing fun again this year. Making an effort to bring people together while also asking them to support Marshall County Habitat for Humanity, this race features some of the most scenic vistas in the southeast.

August 1
2nd Annual Mississippi Delta Dragon Boat Festival

After a very popular first-year event featuring a close finals race, dragon boat racing returns to Greenville, MS. Part of the festival’s mission is to celebrate the long history of the Chinese in the Delta through fellowship, fun competition, and  cultural education. Along with racing, the event also features cultural events. Come race on the levee!

August 8
Inaugural St. Lawrence River Dragon Boat Challenge in Ogdensburg, NY
In addition to their desire to put on a fantastic weekend of community camaraderie, Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center hosts this fundraising event to generate funds for the Children’s Miracle Network and the North Country Community Foundation. Races will happen on the St. Lawrence River at Waddington Beach.

August 15
4th Annual Habitat Dragon Boat Festival – Gadsden, AL
A race featuring competitive paddlers raising money to build homes for Habitat, roads are closed nearby to handle the crowd coming to this race. An event that grows every year, paddlers win on the water and off the water with spirit and tent awards. Benefiting the Gadsden-Etowah Habitat for Humanity, come check out this race on the Coosa River.

2nd Annual Blount County Dragon Boat Festival – Maryville, TN
After a very popular inaugural event, dragon boat racing returns to Maryville, TN at the scenic Tellico Marina. Fittingly, a local school won Gold last year after some competitive racing. Benefiting The Blount County Education Foundation, this event also features a corn hole tournament, BBQ, live music, guaranteed three races for all teams, beer and, of course, dragon boat racing.

August 22
5th Annual Owensboro Dragon Boat Festival – Owensboro, KY

Teams returning to this race will look to take Gold from three-peat winners REO Speed Dragons. After a very close finals last year, the Evansville, Indiana based team will want to bring their best again to the Ohio River. Live music, food and fellowship are the highlights of this race, along with the passing barges.

August 29
Downtown Dragon, Drum and Paddle Dragon Boat Races

The 8th fastest growing sport in the world and the most fun, unique cultural event featuring adrenaline-pumping action, dragon boat racing grows in popularity each year and is returning to downtown Knoxville! It’s a benefit for The Tennessee Clean Water Network, which also produces a race in Memphis, TN. Some local and out of town teams have registered early for action on the Tennessee River. Join us!

Wheeling Dragon Boat Festival
Making a debut in Wheeling, West Virginia, Dragon Boat Wheeling is a benefit for The King’s Daughters Child Care Center whose goal is to provide an environment that will enrich the life experiences of each child so as to promote growth and development within a positive and healthy framework.

9th Annual Cumberland River Dragon Boat Festival – Nashville, TN
One of the best downtown backdrops on our schedule, The Cumberland River Dragon Boat Festival at Riverfront Park in downtown Nashville gets bigger every year. The race benefits the Cumberland River Compact, which highlights its work on the river while inviting those in the city raise money to help preserve its future. Check out one of the best events in Music City!

September 13
3rd Annual Lewes Dragon Boat Festival, benefiting Sussex Academy – Lewes, DE
Heating up with competitors and fundraisers, this annual event in the picturesque coastal city of Lewes, DE, usually maxes out the number of teams by May. Held in the first city in the first state, every team wants to win first place! After raising a whopping $40,000 in the steerers’ auction alone, it will be fun to see what happens in 2015. Fundraising  benefits local school Sussex Academy.

September 20
8th Annual Cleveland Dragon Boat Festival – Cleveland, OH
The competition gets more exciting every year in Cleveland. This year should feature more of the same after locals from Team Panda were upset in the finals by The Steel City Dragons from Pittsburgh in a close race on the Cuyahoga River in downtown Cleveland, OH. The race, produced by the Cleveland Dragon Boat Association, benefits The Gathering Place, which provides cancer services to those in need, free of charge.

October 3
3rd Annual Shoals Dragon Boat Festival – Florence, AL
After an adventurous second event featuring tornado warnings at practices and a fast flowing current, the Shoals welcomes back dragon boat racing a few weeks earlier than usual this year. A benefit for Kilby Laboratory School, Florence, AL has become a serious dragon boat racing town. More than 20 teams had already signed up for the 2015 race soon after last year’s festival. As Event Organizer Emily Rhodes would say, “Paddles Up, Shoals”!

Inaugural River Valley Dragon Boat Festival
After hearing about the strong success of The River Cities Dragon Boat Festival, staff and board members of Hamilton House decided to get on board with the concept of dragon boat racing and fundraising. With a great organizational plan in place and a Presenting Sponsor secured, committee members will get incredible support from the community for their inaugural race.
